Dance is defined as a type of art that generally involves movement of the body, often rhythmic and to music. It is performed in many cultures as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, or exercise, in a spiritual or performance setting, and is sometimes used to express ideas or tell a story. Dance may also be regarded as a form of nonverbal communication between humans or other animals.
Whether our dance is done with the brush along the canvas, the pencil across the paper, or the feet across the ground, it is all about artistic expression.
For this piece, I wanted to express the emotion from my newest form of expression - dance - in the way that I have been doing since my grandpa handed me a crayon. I began with pastels on canvas, which I started using as a child, and finished the piece using a computer, which is what I am using most as an adult.
While neither of the dancers in this piece are me, the dance itself is mine.
